Separated by a draped balustrade from the table with splendid tableware in the foreground, a princely banquet is held underneath a canopy. Between the columns, court musicians are scarcely visible. The motif might illustrate a scene from the 13th book of Vergil's epic, the Aeneid. In this case, the banquet is occasioned by the wedding between Aeneas and Lavinia.
