Sweet House on Johari Bazar near Sanganeri Gate

Sanganeri Gate

As you approach Johari Bazar, look on your right to see the Ram Pol better known as Sanganeri Gate that would lead you out on Mirza Ismail Road, popularly known as M.I. Road. If you want to see the front portion of the gate you can take a slight diversion and come back again through the gate. For Johari Bazar, just turn left. The first monument of importance is a Hanuman temple on your left. On the opposite side is the Shri Roopchandramaji temple that can be explored. You would need to cross over to the right. Be careful as this is the beginning of Johari Bazar and there is heavy traffic here, going both in and out of Johari Bazar.

Come back to the left after you have seen the temple and stay on this side. This area has a mix of seed and fertilizer shops. A few shops later you'll see some fruit shops. Try a glass of fruit juice, it is fresh, and hygienic.

Near the fruit shops is a small lane turning in to the left. Walk in a bit and you will see the coloured glass balcony over a small gateway. It is in rather bad shape now but will give you an idea where the most powerful woman of her time stayed. This is the remnant of the Sheesh Mahal of the famous and powerful concubine by the name of Ras Kapoor.

Ras Kapoor. As mentioned earlier, Maharaja Pratap Singh was so enamoured of this woman that he wanted all his courtiers to acknowledge her as the maharani of half of Jaipur and give her due respect. This led to a lot of discontent and rebellion within his courtiers and ultimately, this beauty was imprisoned and banished to Nahargarh (known as Sudarshangarh that time).
