Found in Guinea to Uganda and south to lake Tanganyika, but not including the central forests of Zaire south of Congo river. Inhabits a variety of woodlands from humid evergreen forests to deciduous forest and dry savanna woodlands. Chimps are active throughout the day and feed mainly on fruit, supplementing their diet with leaves, flowers, seeds and insects when fruit is scarce. Chimpanzees are highly social animals. Their memories are long and such long social memories play an important role in chimpanzee society in natural settings.
