Found in Southern Nepal and northeast India. Diet: feeding mostly on grass, leaves and twigs.
During the day, it spends long periods of time immersed in water and wallowing in mud to keep cool. Usually gives birth to a single calf.
Status: Endangered; schedule-I of wildlife (protection) act, 1972.
