
Largest of Indian Deer. Found in West Bengal, Bihar, Orissa, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Andhera Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamilnadu, Maharastra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Bangladesh, and Nepal. Lives in forested hill sides, preferably near cultivation. Lives in small herd: feeds on grass, leaves and various kinds of wild fruits. Like other deer, males posses antlers which are shed annually and grow again to full form. Usually gives birth of a fawn after a gestation period of 7-8 months.
