Cabbage-leaf Verdure, second half of the 16th century.
A vigorous plant and animal life of more or less fantastic zoological origin unfolds around a balustrade. The tapestry, made of wool and silk, is a so-called 'verdure' (French for "greenish foliage"). The background is dominated by large, curly leaves. Due to the shape of the leaves, tapestries of this type are nick-named "Cabbage-leaf" verdures.
